Albert Pujols is putting up some great numbers this year (even better than he normally does.) He's leading the NL in OPS by a pretty wide margin (1.100 to Lance Berkman's second place 1.025), he's right behind Chipper Jones in batting average (.357 to .356) and leading the NL in both OBP (.466) & SLG (.634)

The only problem is that the Cardinals are long shot to make the playoffs (4.5 games out of the wild card slot) but regardless of that (I don't believe in penalizing players for being on not so great teams), Pujols would definitely have my vote.

Amen, here on 9/9 Albert is putting up more big numbers and batting with very little protection - i can't think of any hitter i'd rather not face with the game on the line, and his defense is good too, gold glove quality. Definite leader as well, but I think the writers will go with someone like Chase Utley.

I agree but it's tough. Most Valuable is key, how much more value does a player have when his team makes the playoffs?
If winning the World Series is the goal, then a player who's team is not in the playoffs is tough.

There are awards like silver slugger, gold glove, comeback.. how about BEST PLAYER award and A MVP AWARD with MVP going to guy who got his team over the hump and into the playoffs like Ryan Howard is doing for the phillies or Delgado or Wright if the mets make it.

I believe Ryan Howard should win MVP this year. I know he has just about 200 stike outs and a .250 average, but he has helped his team more than any other player in baseball this year. He is leading the MLB in homers and rbis, and his numbers in september are increadable. He even picked up his defence a lot the past month or two. And with the Phillies making the playoffs, I think he is the right choise for MVP.

I hate how people bring up the playoff factor. In 2006, when howard won the MVP, the phillies did not make the playoffs when the cardinals did. Now people are trying to make that argumment to give howard the award. It really doesnt make any sense to me. This award is about as bias as it gets. the BBWAA needs to get their heads out their A$$
