Game 4 of the World Series? That was over before it was over: As you can see I called the series int he 5th inning last night. Plus who cares about a World Series game played at Coors Field? That's not even really baseball. They should come up with some other term for the game played at Coors Field and they certainly shouldn't include the stats accumulated there among Major League totals. All Rockies hitters deserve an asterisk by their statistics.

On to more interesting news:

AL MVP Alex Rodriguez Will Not Be A Yankee Next Season.

Despite the fact that the Yankees were ready to offer him huge amounts of money, Alex Rodriguez has opted out of his Yankees contract. This is a move that the Yankees have said they will not tolerate. They have made it clear they will not join the bidding on A-Rod if he opts out of his Yankees contract and yesterday Hank Steinbrenner said "It's clear he didn't want to be a Yankee. He doesn't understand the privilege of being a Yankee on a team where owners are willing to pay $200 million to put a winning product on the field. I don't want anybody on my team that doesn't want to be a Yankee."

Now the question is where will A-Rod go? Perhaps he will take over for Barry Bonds in San Francisco? The Red Sox? Cubs? Angels? Mets?

One also wonders what big names the Yankees will go after to try and replace Rodriguez. Will they finally go after pitching instead of hitting?

I hate the Rockies. I hate Coors Fields. I don't love the Red Sox, but at least they aren't the Yankees. Congratulations on your sweep of this pathetic team and your second World Series in four years. Curse?

Yes I am posting this in the 5th inning, that's how much I think the Rockies suck. I'll leave it up even if they have a come back and win the game at that Godforsaken Coors Field.

My last post was going to be about the World Series but ended up mostly being a rant about Coors Field and today I still think ranting about Coors Field is more interesting than this World Series (oh yeah Boston won 13-1 last night.)

I mentioned the insanity that would occur if a truly great hitter ever suits up for the Rockies. For your consideration I have looked at Bonds numbers at Coors Field from 2001-2004 which were his peak seasons when he was absolutely dominating baseball at a pace only rivaled by Babe Ruth and Ted Williams at their peak. As great as his numbers were during this period, how much greater would they have been if he had been a member of the Rockies instead of the Giants?

From '01 to '04 Bonds played 32 games in Colorado and amassed the following numbers: .427 AVG, .566 OBP, .981 SLG, 16 HR, 30 R, 33 RBI, 33 BB, 15 IBB.

As great as his home stats (at AT&T) were during this period (he hit .365 at home from '01 to '04) it's clear that his numbers would have been significantly more ridiculous had he been a member of the Rockies. He would have likely threatened the .400 mark both in 2002 and in 2004.

Ah yes, and Todd Helton sucks.

The first World Series games to be played in Colorado's Coors Field are coming up (games 3 and 4 of this year's World Series.) What a shame. Coors Field is a pox on major league baseball. It's a far greater threat to the "statistical integrity" of baseball than PEDs. Why? Because everyone can (and it's clear most do) take performance enhancing drugs, only Rockies hitters get to play half of their games at Coors Field!

Anyway, to the Series itself. I can't I'm thrilled about this match up but I am rooting for the Red Sox. I hate these sort of half assed expansion teams like the Rockies. They can go straight to hell along with the Diamondbacks, Marlins, and Devil Rays.

A simple 3 step fix for the MLB playoffs:

1. Go back to two divisions in each league.
2. Get rid of the wild card.
3. Make the division playoffs and the World Series 9 games.

With this set up you are much more likely to have the best team come out on top and you are also much more likely to have a great World Series match up instead of this sort of boring nonsense. The most recent expansion teams should be folded up, especially the Rockies. Coors Field is ridiculous. And I would love to see what kind of numbers Matt Holliday & Todd Helton would put up without having Coors Field to come home to.

Home-Away Splits In 2007:

Matt Holliday: .376 with 25 homers in Colorado, .301 with 11 homers on the road.

Todd Helton: .333 with 9 homers in Colorado, .308 with 8 homers on the road.

Admittedly Helton's numbers weren't that skewed this year but they usually are. From 2004 to 2006 he hit .341 at home and .288 on the road.

Holliday won the NL batting title this year. That's a travesty. Forget the PED BS. Holliday is a .300 hitter getting credit as a .340 hitter because he plays in Coors Field. That's complete crap and unfair to the real 2007 NL batting champ Chipper Jones who hit .337 (.353 AWAY vs. .320 HOME.)

Imagine if a great hitter ever plays in Colorado? (and NO Todd Helton and Matt Holliday are not great hitters, that's my whole point here.) Imagine if Barry Bonds had been in Colorado from 2000 to 2007? He'd have hit .400 at least twice and would probably be well over 800 homers by now.

THE OVERLORD
BALTIMORE -- Leo Mazzone was fired as pitching coach of the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, less than a month after completing his second season with a struggling staff.

GREAT IDEA!

Mazzone was proud of the work he did with starters Erik Bedard, Adam Loewen and Jeremy Guthrie, who have developed into solid major league pitchers. But he never could get through to Daniel Cabrera and some of the other pitchers on the youthful staff.

So he helped out all the young talent, and couldn't help Rick Vaughn not hit fans in alphabetical order by last name. GOOD LUCK O's Kiddies!

Ryan Braun is the my choice for the NL rookie of the year. It's quite an easy choice, and that's despite the fact that there were some other very good NL rookies this year.

Braun lead the NL in slugging percentage at .634 which went along nicely with his .324 batting average. I'm not sure when the last time a rookie lead his league in slugging percentage or even if it's ever happened before. Let me know if you find out about that. He also lead all NL rookies with 34 home runs. His 34 homers placed him 5th in the NL overall. He hit his 34 homers in only 451 at bats. He also finished 5th in AB/HR ratio behind Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard, Adam Dunn, and Barry Bonds.

There were also some other great rookies in the NL this year such as Arizona's Chris Young who hit 32 homers (although he hit only .237), Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki who had 24 homers and 99 RBI, the Dodgers James Loney who hit .331 with a .538 slugging percentage, and Houston's Hunter Pence who hit .322 with a .539 slugging percentage.

Yawn. Wake me up when this one is over please. This post-season has been a bit of a disappointment so far. Even though the Yankees lost which is always a good thing. They could have at least waited and lost to the Red Sox, it's a hoot when the Yanks lose to the Sox.

I'd like to rant about why the 5 game series thing is so stupid but with the sweeps that occurred in the NL, I can't even be bothered to do that really.
